Personality and Abilities
Sep. 8th, 2014 03:10 pmDespite his name and cartoon counterpart, Goofy is a dependable and sometimes pretty insightful person. It is true that he's simple and not really the smartest guy around, but he is definitely among the most kind, very friendly, brave, and one of the most loyal. He's usually really mellow and not easily worked up, as well as being optimistic enough that even when things seem bleak he can find a reassuring thought. Even though he doesn't always have a lot to say, when he does speak up it's worth listening to more often than it's not.
As a character Goofy stands out because of the fact that, despite being the captain of the royal guard, he dislikes using actual weapons to fight and instead uses only shields. Actually, he hates to fight and would rather find a peaceful solution where possible instead of rushing off to battle at the first sign of trouble. He also doesn't really participate in arguments, preferring to reason and listen more than seriously debating, and often letting things go rather than pressing matters even when he's right. Defense and support are his best traits in a fight when it comes down to it, whether it's a serious fight or a friendly competition.
When it comes to courage, fearless wouldn't describe Goofy at all, but he can set aside his fears to do what he needs to, especially when it comes to protecting others. He is selfless enough to throw himself in harm's way to protect those he cares about and wouldn't hesitate to do so the minute he has to.
It's stated commonly that Goofy is King Mickey's most loyal subject, and it is true. He would do just about anything for his king, including close the door to darkness and shut him inside on his orders. But sometimes his loyalty to his friends takes precedence over this loyalty and he will do what he feels needs to be done even if it goes against his direct orders. He'll always apologize for not following his orders, but not for doing what he feels is right, and he will continue to overall be loyal. This kind of loyalty, to a lesser extent, can be applied to pretty much any similar situation.
Being honest to almost a fault isn't really to his disadvantage. Goofy does on occasion reveal things that he wasn't supposed to, but it's not a habit. He also tends to avoid lying and is much more likely to say when he can't say something or stop someone else from saying things that shouldn't be said. In part due to his quieter nature, at least compared to Donald at Sora, he also doesn't always call others out when they lie.
Abilities
Goofy is not good with magic, instead choosing to attack and defend with a magical shield that he can summon on command to use for both close and longer range attacks. He has a decent range of abilities with it, as well as supportive skills where he can trade some of his magic to restore some of his friends' magic or health.
Goofy is a high HP character and can take a decent amount of damage. He also has a very hard head, meaning he can take heavy blows and only be knocked out.
